Boarding data is the point of the system

Everything else in school transport is operations. The function that justifies the deployment is knowing which children boarded, which alighted, and whether those two lists match — because the failure mode this sector genuinely fears is a child remaining on a vehicle after the route ends.

That requires identification at both ends rather than only at boarding, an automatic check that flags any unmatched record immediately, and an end-of-route sweep confirmation from the driver. Treat those three as non-negotiable requirements when evaluating any system, ours included.

Parent visibility has to be scoped carefully

Live bus position reduces calls to the school office and genuinely reassures parents, but it is personal data about children and it must be scoped to the route their child travels on, for the period they travel on it. A parent app that exposes the whole fleet, or that persists after a child leaves the school, is a data problem waiting to become an incident.

Decide the access model deliberately — what each parent sees, for how long, and who can revoke it — rather than accepting a default. This is a question worth raising with any vendor before you see the demo.

Regulation is local and it is not optional

School transport in the UAE and across the GCC is subject to safety requirements set by local transport authorities, and those requirements differ by emirate and by country. They can cover vehicle specification, driver licensing, supervision on board, and in some cases mandated monitoring.

We are not the right source for what applies to you, and any vendor claiming their product makes you compliant should be treated with caution. Bring your authority's current requirements into the design conversation, because they determine what has to be recorded and retained rather than being configured afterwards.

Speed inside a school zone is a different rule

A blanket fleet speed limit is easy to set and easy for drivers to dismiss. A zone-specific limit around schools and residential pick-up areas is both more defensible with drivers and more meaningful — it matches a rule they can see on a sign. Geofencing supports per-zone limits, and the resulting violations attribute to the driver on shift through driver identification.
