Hosting a telematics platform is not the same job as hosting a website, and buying it as though it were is how fleets end up with gaps in their history and customers on the phone. A website sits idle until someone visits. A GPS platform is the opposite: every tracker in the field holds an open connection and writes to your database around the clock, whether anyone is logged in or not. What actually drives the size of your server

Sales pages talk about CPU cores. The number that decides your hosting is simpler: device count multiplied by reporting frequency. A tracker reporting every 30 seconds produces 2,880 position records a day. A thousand of them produce close to 2.9 million records a day, and roughly 86 million a month — before you add ignition events, sensor readings, geofence crossings and driver-behaviour alerts on top.

This is why two fleets of the same size can need very different servers. A thousand delivery vans on a 10-second interval with video telematics is a heavier workload than five thousand trailers reporting every five minutes. Before we quote anything we ask for device models, reporting intervals and how much history you are contractually required to keep, because those three answers size the machine. If a hosting provider quotes you without asking them, they are guessing.

Cloud, dedicated or on-premise — choosing honestly

Cloud SaaS suits operators who want to be live this week and would rather not own infrastructure at all. You get a running platform on our managed cloud, updates and backups handled, and per-device billing that tracks your actual fleet. It is the right answer for most businesses under a few thousand devices, and for anyone still proving the model.

A dedicated server becomes worth it when your resource usage stops being bursty and becomes constant, when you need your own domain and a completely white-labelled environment, or when a client contract requires isolation from other tenants. You also get room to be noisy — heavy report generation and bulk API pulls stop competing with anyone else's workload.

On-premise is a data question more often than a technical one. Government contracts, defence-adjacent logistics and some enterprise tenders require that vehicle location data never leaves an organisation's own infrastructure. If that is your situation, we install and configure the platform inside your environment, train your team, and support it under a maintenance contract — you keep complete data sovereignty and we stay responsible for the software.
